    Metalbalded journal, entry 6

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 10:40 PM PDT

A small human caravan arrived. Unlike the elves, they carried useful goods to us, like cloth and leather. Three of our steel axe blades were more than enough to get them to part with everything useful they brought.

Our village has had its first birth! Logem Egenalåth, his parents named him. In fact, as of this writing we've had several babies born. However, Logem was the first our small settlement has had. His pumpkin-hued, double-braided mustache was remarked upon by all.

We've had another migrant wave, this one led by a woodcutter named Dodók Atölendok. These dwarves bring our total population to sixty-five souls. I've sent the grazing animals down to the caverns to clear the floors around our farm plots. With this migrant wave, we had the foundation of two separate guilds: the miners (who named themselves The Amethyst Company) and rangers (The Plain Guild). Both groups demanded dedicated spaces for their meetings, so I ordered narrow rooms carved out for both guilds near the central staircase of the fortress.

Amidst all this, I finally found what I think is the best way to tap the cavern's reservoir of water. I've charted out the plans and the miners are working on executing it. I hope I haven't made any mistakes; a flood at that level would be catastrophic.Steel production continues, as does the work of the masons on furniture and creature comforts. Soon, each bedroom will boast a cabinet, a coffer, and a door in addition to its bed. The engravers are busy smoothing out the floor and walls of the living quarters. I wonder if any of the newer arrivals will be interested in joining the military?

Getting the Dirt on the Worm (A Johnathon Porklington Story)

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 05:29 PM PDT

The hustle and bustle of the local tavern goes quiet when Johnathon walks in, apparently the dwarves local to the arena were none too happy about their favourite McGladiator being beheaded in the first round. But Johnathon was willing to risk a bar brawl, as what he was there for was worth the risk.

He had spied his next opponent, a worm man by the name of Duke Grubugosh, in the training rooms making light work of some cave beasts and to say that made Johnathon nervous would be an understatement. Johnathon had already prepared himself the best he could for his opponent, armour would be useless against those magic fists of his, but he needed more, he needed some insider knowledge. Johnathon had never even heard of the Under-Kingdom or Dirtsbury before the Duke pitched up.

Johnathon, all eyes on him, approaches the back of the tavern, sits next to a shady looking dwarf and lets the tavern return to their general chatter before speaking.

"I need some information… can you help me?"

"Och I hear loads I do, I got enough info to choke a draltha. Whats it yer wantin then?"

"I require information on an individual known as Duke Grubugosh"

"Aye, I got loads a dirt on the worm. But it'll cost ye"

    "How much?"

    "How much ye got?"

Johnathon sighs and drops a small bag of gold on the table that the dwarf quickly swipes into his hand.

"Aye this'll do. They say e's the champion of the Under-Kingdom, got the title after e' conquered the slug people of slug mountain the poor buggers. Other than that he lords over a town called Dirtsbury, he's got family there I believe if that's who yer after. But if ye really want ta hurt him, they say he's pining after some lassie doon there as well, Grubelina they call her. Worm royalty I believe, quite tha scoop."

"Interesting… Thank you sir, this has been… most helpful"

Johnathon smirks as he exits the tavern. His plan was coming together.
