    Ask about anything related to Dwarf Fortress - including the game, utilities, bugs, problems you're having, mods, etc. You will get fast and friendly responses in this thread.

    I started writing this as a story and almost bored myself to death. The gist is this - that's some rare pokemon right there. If necromancers were smarter (at least those that wage war against all living things) and started using the bodies of fallen giants, ettins and FBs, the age of death would start so much sooner. The body of the ettin was found in a cave by a young necromancer and was brought back as an undead lieutenant to be used in a defense of a fortress. The huge two-headed husk fought off 4 consecutive assaults and had managed to stomp thousands of (1059 notable, 3460 others) soldiers before being slain by an unnamed dwarf. Who was probably crushed by its falling corpse and that's why he went unidentified. That's the highest kill count in my current world as seen in Legends Viewer. And it's an intelligent undead freaking ettin! Who's your #1?

    Help me to explain Dwarf Fortress to a friend

    I am trying to explain to my friend that dwarf fortress is not just any other video game.i explain to him that blood circulation and muscle strength is simulated in the dwarves. He was not impressed saying that it was unnecessary. Can you guys provide me with an example to show how it can work in unexpected ways. The emergent nature of the simulation or any story from your own game experience.

    First Fortress - First Year Completed

    Hey! Awhile ago I had downloaded this game because of how much of a Rimworld fan I had become. I had heard on the internet about an even more in-depth game - which was Dwarf Fortress. After looking online for a couple days and seeing tutorials I figured I'd give it a shot. What I did not expect was the difficulty navigating the menus, graphics, and subtle but very important kinks (i.e. stairs). So I put the game down for what seems to be like half a year ago.

    Fast forward to today - it was Saturday night when my Rimworld Colony got completely wiped except a pregnant woman who had finally knifed the last raider as an overhead space battle completely obliterated my base. It got me to thinking about the many stories I had heard of Dwarf Fortress and since I've clocked a disgusting amount of hours into Rimworld - I figured I would give this another go and see if I can wrap my very tiny intellect around the various controls and UI. I had heard of a steam client now but financially I'm not doing too well (as I'm sure many others aren't as well during this time) so I decided to just give this old school client a real go. After all - everyone has been using the free one up until now so I am sure I can as well.

    I'm proud to say that after around 12 hours of the dwarf fortress wiki, and several other youtuber tutorials I have completed my first year in Dwarf Fortress! We've had monkey attacks, floods, famine, and plenty of miasma to go around (didn't know about refuse lmao) but here we are at 22 dwarfs at spring of year 251!

    I don't know anyone else who plays this game so I just wanted to make my introduction and get to know everyone I suppose. Part of what draws me to the internet is because while I have plenty of friends in real life - I don't know anyone who shares the same interests as me. Rimworld, Dwarf Fortress, Civs, etc. So, hopefully I can make some dwarf friends.

    Peridexiserrant's starter pack just refuses to start up, ironically

    So after trying to run the exe it shows up in the task manager for less than a second then it disappears. Could you please help me? It used to run on my pc until like a day ago and not being able to easily change config options is annoying.
