    ☼Bi-weekly DF Questions Thread☼

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 04:07 PM PST

Ask about anything related to Dwarf Fortress - including the game, utilities, bugs, problems you're having, mods, etc. You will get fast and friendly responses in this thread.

Read the sidebar before posting! It has information on a range of game packages for new players, and links to all the best tutorials and quick-start guides. If you have read it and that hasn't helped, mention that!

You should also take five minutes to search the wiki - if tutorials or the quickstart guide can't help, it usually has the information you're after. You can find the previous questions thread here.

If you can answer questions, please sort by new and lend a hand - linking to a helpful resource (eg wiki page) is fine.

The humans are trying to sell this scroll... I can imagine a whole lot of dorfs trying to explain that this isn't how books work...

    Fluid mechanics and Pump stacks

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 10:13 AM PST

Normally I'd ask this kind of thing in the questions thread but it's complex subject that deserves it's own topic.

Back in the days when I started (I started way back in .38c), there was a well known exploit where if you have pumps drawing from a source and other pumps drawing from that pump, there would be a net water gain for the entire system.

Now I had some questions about this that'll I'll be running tests on, but at the same time I have to recognize that they are going to involve some difficult and involved setup. So I have to ask, can anyone confirm this is still the case? I did a bit of wiki and other research and can find no mention of this on the fluids, exploits, and screw pump pages.

As a second question about this, I'd really like to know if pumped lava has the same effect, because that has numerous merits. A magma piston followed by a growth recycler pumping lava could give you surface lava with a relative minimum of effort.

    The most pathetic were-beast ever

It didn't make it to my fortress in time to kill anyone. After wandering around for a while, it transformed back into a human and then drowned.

Does anyone else feel like getting good at dwarf fortress has improved their multitasking abilities and workflow sense?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 12:30 PM PST

I just got an IT job and I've noticed I'm really good at prioritizing different tasks and multitasking, and it feels like I jump from different tasks in the same way I do in dwarf fortress. I don't remember being that good at this in the past since I'm easily distracted, but I could just be imagining things.

Anyone else ever feel like this?
