Dwarf Fortress A werebeast killed my guard dogs, but ignored a child. Even as bloodthirsty creatures as weresheep consider children to be too worthless to kill.

Vampires are a perfect spice to any fortress

    Posted: 26 Jan 2022 11:46 PM PST

They just add something I find a lot of fun to fortress management. Let's set a scene:

You just finished cleaning up after an elven invasion (the cause of the war, a simple misplaced wooden trinket) and you find one of your doctors dead in their room!

"What shock!" You think to yourself. Afterall the hospital is located well below the surface. No way those damned tree lovers found their way down here to kill a single dwarf. What's more they seem to be drier than a forgotten beasts dust.

So begins the murder mystery. And that's the spice I'm talking about. MYSTERY.

Who did it? Who had access to this area? When did it happen? Was it durring the commotion of the war or was it earlier? Suddenly the game goes from a city manager, to an rts, then now to something akin to a point and click mystery game. It's a breathe of fresh air.

With wearbeasts it's just pandemonium. Sudden and violent. Fun in it's own way for sure but vampires are quiet. They provide a chance at building a story in a manner I really enjoy.

And when you do find them they dont nessisarily need to be removed. Sure you can lock em up forever to be used as a centerpiece in your trophy room but they can also be welcomed. Afterall think of the skills one could have with immortality! A perfect addition to any elite taskforce. Sure itll cost a few of the....lesser dwarves, but the potential for perfection is a hard offer to ignore.

    ☼Bi-weekly DF Questions Thread☼

    Posted: 20 Jan 2022 04:09 PM PST

Ask about anything related to Dwarf Fortress - including the game, utilities, bugs, problems you're having, mods, etc. You will get fast and friendly responses in this thread.

Read the sidebar before posting! It has information on a range of game packages for new players, and links to all the best tutorials and quick-start guides. If you have read it and that hasn't helped, mention that!

You should also take five minutes to search the wiki - if tutorials or the quickstart guide can't help, it usually has the information you're after. You can find the previous questions thread here.

If you can answer questions, please sort by new and lend a hand - linking to a helpful resource (eg wiki page) is fine.
