    Posted: 09 Dec 2021 04:09 PM PST

Ask about anything related to Dwarf Fortress - including the game, utilities, bugs, problems you're having, mods, etc. You will get fast and friendly responses in this thread.

Read the sidebar before posting! It has information on a range of game packages for new players, and links to all the best tutorials and quick-start guides. If you have read it and that hasn't helped, mention that!

You should also take five minutes to search the wiki - if tutorials or the quickstart guide can't help, it usually has the information you're after. You can find the previous questions thread here.

If you can answer questions, please sort by new and lend a hand - linking to a helpful resource (eg wiki page) is fine.

[Kruggsmash] Waddlesquash #8: Bogies in the Badger Tree

    Posted: 09 Dec 2021 04:48 AM PST

Pic of my fort site. There are too many trees. Because of this, I may be unable to have trade caravans. Perhaps this is revenge for all the elven caravans I've slaughtered.

Several years after the forgotten beast fiasco in TempleGirders, someone apparently started a riot, and nearly 30 of my inhabitants are now dead.

    Migrants sure are something

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 03:38 PM PST

I donate 200 dwarfbucks to my first Dwarven caravan, on accident, by misinterpreting the "offering" command in the trading menu and thinking I could always take the stuff back.

Now I'm being flooded by a veritable tidal wave of migrants, most of them useless, and I can't handle them all.

Suggestion for Steam DF - Every Dwarf for themself!

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 07:52 AM PST

    • Minimum effort: An alert that makes every dwarf grab a preferred weapon and stop most jobs.
    • Average effort: A bell building that has a certain audible radius, affected by the bell ringers' strength, that does the above.
    • Maximum effort: Above and dwarves destroy tables, beds and chairs for makeshift weapons. Cowards hide inside buildings while brave dwarves can seek out the enemy or actively protect their relatives and children.

Memorials for whole battles! Mod Concept

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 11:25 AM PST

Would it be possible to make memorials for particular battles? This would elegantly allow the player to memorialize all the dwarves who fell as part of one large battle or event, much in the style of memorials in the real world. The reason I imagine this to be possible is because Dwarf Fortress saves the siege attacks on player fortresses as battles, noting all the participants that fell in said battle. Therefore, I imagine there would be a way for a knowledgeable modder to capture this information in the memorial mechanism. The memorial would simply act the way it normally does – except rather than dedicating it to a dwarf, one would dedicate it to a battle. The game mechanism would then reference all the dwarves that had fallen in the battle, instantly memorializing them all.

You could even present it in a similar way:

Here are remembered the dwarves/all those that fell in the battle of Lashedwhip in 304:

Urist Bronzebow killed by a goblin lasher in 304
Stinthad Rockhelmet killed by a goblin swordsman in 304
    … and so on.

I'd particularly welcome the responses of any active modders as to the feasibility of this idea/concept.

Status of Dwarf Fortress on Apple Silicon Macs (M1)

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 11:00 PM PST

I recently got a new MacBook Pro, which is exciting because finally I have a computer powerful enough to play dwarf fortress again.

Except... after doing all the setup (allowing unsigned applications, switching graphics mode from 2D to STANDARD), it always crashes about 20 years into world gen.

Does anyone know if there's a workaround for this? I tried searching this subreddit, and only found 3 results from a year ago that didn't really have answers. And I tried searching the forums, but... I don't know how to search effectively, and I couldn't find anything.
