    Ask about anything related to Dwarf Fortress - including the game, utilities, bugs, problems you're having, mods, etc. You will get fast and friendly responses in this thread.

    Read the sidebar before posting! It has information on a range of game packages for new players, and links to all the best tutorials and quick-start guides. If you have read it and that hasn't helped, mention that!

    You should also take five minutes to search the wiki - if tutorials or the quickstart guide can't help, it usually has the information you're after. You can find the previous questions thread here.

    If you can answer questions, please sort by new and lend a hand - linking to a helpful resource (eg wiki page) is fine.

    I've never seen this before; I just started a new world and it isn't "The Age of Myth"? It's the "Age of Hydra and Forest Titan". All I did was change mineral occurrence to frequent.

    New record for losing a fortress?

    I am here, hanging my head in shame, that others might laugh at the ridiculous way I just lost a fortress. I'll preface this by saying I haven't played in a long time (at least a year), so my instincts are..... not sharp anymore. I generated my world, found a nice, temperate woodland to build my fortress in, and embarked! It was cold weather when I arrived, and the rivers were frozen (I'm sure some of you see where this is going). The embark dropped my dwarves off right on top of the frozen river, where they safely (or so I thought) huddled around the wagon while I dug out a meeting grounds for them to idle in. Content and comfortable, I begin to dig. I've placed and built my kitchen, and my minerdwarves are digging out a 20x20 dining room/gathering space. Halfway through the digging, sure enough, four dwarves are found drowned. Bewildered, I look back at where my wagon should have been -- and where only seconds before the wagon, and the dwarves huddled around it, fell through the recently thawed river surface and into the water below, where they all promptly drowned. Oops!
