Ask about anything related to Dwarf Fortress - including the game, utilities, bugs, problems you're having, mods, etc. You will get fast and friendly responses in this thread.

Read the sidebar before posting! It has information on a range of game packages for new players, and links to all the best tutorials and quick-start guides. If you have read it and that hasn't helped, mention that!

You should also take five minutes to search the wiki - if tutorials or the quickstart guide can't help, it usually has the information you're after. You can find the previous questions thread here.

If you can answer questions, please sort by new and lend a hand - linking to a helpful resource (eg wiki page) is fine.

Every Fortress Has a Puppy Mill

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 09:06 AM PST

Every single fortress I build has the same feature:

    • On the farm-level, there's a cage
    • In the cage are all the puppies
    • Every time we have more puppies, we shove them into the cage
    • Once they grow up, we turn them into +dog bone bolts+ and +dog leather waterskins+

It's gotten to the point where I embark with 4 or more females, just so I can ensure an adequate supply without having to wait for my breeding population to spin up.

So I've got a room full of dogs, pumping out puppies around the clock. Said puppies are snatched away from their mothers before the afterbirth is gone. Puppies grow up in the dark, in a splintery wooden cage, smothered by all the other puppies from that harvest, and presumably fed on scraps and all the afterbirth they can find. Mothers get right back to pumping out more puppies.

    I love this game.

5 years playing the game and just found out clowns could get pregnant. Intriguing, but highly disgusting.

    Issue with TWBT rendering

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 09:12 AM PST

Got a bizarre rendering problem with green lines trying to run LNP.

Searched a fair bit until I found this: https://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=11602

I tried to install previous intel driver but it doesn't allow me. Does anyone has any clue what it is? I played this last year without problems...

    The graphics pack on Steam

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 09:30 AM PST

    Hey everyone!

I saw the release information for Steam and noticed that the mod pack looked slick as hell. I'm guessing that the pack was custom made specifically to sell on Steam, but does anyone know of a pack that looks/functions similarly?

    Thanks!

I just lost 5 hours of progress

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 03:45 PM PST

Completely vanilla. No tilesets, just soundsense. One of my favorite dwarves had just created an awesome gold-microcline artifact, and then it crashed when I tried to zoom in on some text. Great.

Do you think necromancers stay in their towers because they, too, live in fear of what they've created? (I didn't know failed experiments could breed... or produce friendly offspring?)

    Tileset/graphic set suggestions?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 11:46 AM PST

Hey! So I'm curious to what sets some of you folks use and thoughts on them.

Personally I use to use mayday's for awhile then moved onto Ironhand. I know there's phoebus and mephs set but all the usual sets seem to be out of date and I don't really want to return to acii after all this time. So any help/suggestions would be grand!

My second fortress fell and it went something like this

Goblin seige: massive causualties, but I won. Now to bury everyone

Turns out dwarves are too disturbed by nearby bodies to dig holes for those bodies

Finally almost done. Just a few more bodies and I can contin....there's another seige

The most loathsome of dwarven foes

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 02:33 PM PST

    Well, you decide!

Which foe is aboslutely the most loathsome enemy of dwarfdom that deserves being atom-smashed, drowned magma/water, stabbed repeatedly, beaten by stout warriors, devoured by crocodiles, forced to fight forgotten beasts and used as cannon fodder against the circus

Is Anyone Planning to Keep Playing Free After Steam?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 01:03 PM PST

Like, I'm planning to buy it on Steam and play it, if only to give it a good review, but honestly, having a different menu system sounds less appealing to me. The menus in Dwarf Fortress are like a short little dance your fingers do in patterns in intervals and the way they switch up what scrolls and stuff is just a lot of fun. Also, CLA for life.
