I'm incredibly proud of this game. Posted: 19 Aug 2020 03:50 AM PDT As I sit here with my dwarves uncontrollably spiraling into depression, I couldn't help but have a big smile on my face thinking back on how far this game has come. I had no idea picking up this game back in 2015 that it would still hold such rich and deep experiences every time. Tarn and Zach Adams truly have created a masterwork. I hope I'm not alone when I say it has been a privilege to be able to play this. So thank you Bay12 games! May our fortunes rise and fall together. [link] [comments]

Steam workshop mod support was semi confirmed in the latest df talk episode Posted: 19 Aug 2020 03:47 AM PDT They talk about it from minute 51 and I haven't and it seems a big deal to me but I haven't read anything about it. I've always found modding df to be a difficult experience and I'm excited to see what the community comes up with [link] [comments]

Dwarf Fortress Gladiator Tournament V - Losers Battle Royale Posted: 19 Aug 2020 01:47 AM PDT Welcome boys and girls, to the annual resurrection of our beloved fighters, who gave their lives for our entertainment! There will be Mountain Goat Men, and Tree Frog Men, and we will see some other of the fan favorites who got unlucky early like Spiro Escargot, Kol Tatloshok and Maxine the Unshaken. Our crack team of necromancers have put all of our favorites together, to give them a second chance at glory. I have been informed by our necromantic staff that Armok will lend souls to the reanimated bodies, even the ones who have been reanimated before. Yes, we are looking at you Beul. We are more unsure if Mephistopheles even needs/wants a soul, so we won't discuss it. The winner will be allowed to leave the arena, given a second chance in life. Experience has shown that used souls don't last as long as fresh ones, so the staff gives no guarantees about life expectancy after the fight. The animated corpses are marched into position in the Grand Arena. As soon as the horn is sounded, the slightly used souls will take over the bodies and the fight will commence. All gladiators are positioned alphabetically, from top left corner, spiraling clockwise around the arena, towards the center. As the arena is quite large, it can be pretty hard to see your favorite if you don't have the best seats, but our announcer will be quick to inform when kills are noticed. The horn is sounded and the gladiators spring to life: 194 Beul the Executioner starts the party by cleaving the huge Polar Bear Man Kosak, an impressive feat of strength 264 Flipper Gut-Ripper ripped Moruls Guts 680 Nurskit Maneater proves that Zip Zops luck has already been spent 774 Nora Gomez decapitates Andaloth "Peculiar Pecker" 824 Adil "The Hammer" breaks Ngezbos skull 928 Beul the Executioner executes Baron Von-Pierce-A-Lot. Spiro does not survive. 1248 Shendau Goldpeak bled to death after losing his leg to She Intends to Stab You 1271 Beul the Execuioner impales Kol Tatloshok on his large blade, spreading guts all over the arena floor. 1366 McDwarf bled to death after Crowemurphy stabbed his heart. 1406 Stonefaced Ludwig bashes Leg O Lammes brains in. 1515 Grekk the Deranged bleed to death after being ganged up on by Adrinna and Hacker Man. 1608 Vyvanse the restless bleed to death slowly, after Thaddeus Krix'Rix spilled his guts and cut of his hand. 1731 Suleiman the Magnificient chops Shammansub Arelumid in half. 1744 "Crazy Legs" Gilbert cuts off Disas head 1878 Wullbinkle bled to death slowly after Maxine the Unshaken tore his guts and his heart. 1975 Anyola bled to death after being slowly mangled by Aulikir. 1983 Bismuth Boris cleaves Liet El-Kharims head. 2127 She Intends To Stab You slashes Tulantuk "Caveman"s head off, for varietys sake 2130 Nora Gomez cuts off the head of Heribert the Iron Elf 2336 Aulikir ends the suffering of Jiji Mokona with a swith stab to the brain 2464 Romek Sagar bashes Mephistopheles IIs head in, killing him for the fourth time in 12 months. 2527 Adol "The Hammer" Furnacedrinks bled to death after being smashed to a pulp by Frostquake 2565 Suleiman the Magnificient stabs "Crazy Legs" Gilbert in the neck, severing his head from his body. 2675 Urist of the Boreal Valley pulps Van the Dungeon Masters head. 2683 Borris the Bottomless splits Maxine the Unshakens head in two. 2731 "Totem" scratches Flaccidus the Soft, killing him, proving that he truly is soft. 2756 Nora Gomez secures her third kill, cleaving Ipetynalzo in two equal parts. 2823 Thaddeus Krix'Rix cuts the head off She Intends To Stab You, making sure she will never default on her taxes again. 2889 Romek Sagar cracks the skull of Crowemurphy 2908 Adrinna Catastor bled to death after being ripped apart by Hacker Man 2930 Aulikir cuts Jules McJiver in two 2976 Urist McGladiator bled to death after losing his arm to Skyler and his organs to Udib Ironruler. It's a long and gruesome death, but he fights to the end, like a true hero. 3113 Odsnen the ongle susmat bled to death after Beul spilled his filthy guts. He did not seem to care and gave Beul a hard fight and many wounds before giving in to bloodloss. 3272 Nurskit Maneater ends Nora Gomezs killstreak, proving that a Sun Hat is only protection against sun, not flails. 3302 Bismuth Boris wins the knife fight versus Little Tooth, splitting open the trolls head. 3316 Romek Sagar bashes Suleiman the Magnificient to a pulp 3329 Thaddeus Krix'Rix manages to climb The Almighty Bam Bam, and stab his head, proving the certainty of death and taxes 3412 Aulikir stabs Beul the executioner in the brain, ending his twice ressurected life, becoming the first gladiator with four kills tonight! 3429 Skyler Rich bled to death after being severly bitten and shaken by the dwarf Udib Ironruler. 3529 Boris the Bottomless stabs Thaddeus Krix'Rix in the head, dodging all future audits 3544 Jean-Benoit bled to death after Gardner Minshew III mangled him and ripped one of his arms off. 3677 Owe Thelire fells Lucius Postumius Corvus like a tree. 3718 Nurskit Maneater whips Frostquake to death 3754 Nurskit Maneater bashes Hacker Man to an unrecognizable mass. A terrible way to die. 4044 Bismuth Boris bled to death after losing his hand and throat to Urist of the Boreal Valley and his foot to Owe Thelire 4097 Borris the Bottomless ends Udib Ironruler 4196 Borris the Bottomless quickly stabs Aulikir in the head as well. 4234 Romek Sagar strikes down "Totem" 4265 Nurskit Maneater wips Romek Sagar into pieces of meat and blood, earning his name 4325 Nurskit Maneater take yet another life, Urist of The Boreal Valley. Can anybody stop him?? 4331 Gardner Minshew III crushes Borris the Bottomless head 4453 Shlagaflagadeebus has bled to death after Nurskit Maneater mangled his arm beyond any recognition. Good tactical choice, even though it doesn't make for legendary songs 4700 After a long chase around the arena, Gardnes Mishew III catches the running Owe Thelire and ends his suffering by pulping him completely ------------------------------------------------------------- Gardner Minshew III, The Greatest Of All Time finds himself standing in the arena, covered in blood, and surrounded by the bodies of practically every other gladiator in this tournament. This proves it, he thinks to himself. I really am the Greatest Of All Time. This tournament is to small for the likes of me! He speaks to the cheering crowds: " BA..ba babaaa, baaa baa ba..BA BA" "Ba ba!" Having said what he needed to say, he shakes his mullet and heads for the exit. Time to go east. There must be a more worthy tournament. --------------------------------------------------------------

So about that opening animation... Posted: 19 Aug 2020 05:00 AM PDT I've seen the charming ASCII-Art opening animation many times, and I always liked it but, previously, I assumed it was about some more general kind of FUN. Then, via the Wiki, I recently got a full run-down spoiler about the Circus. I can't help but suspect that this animation might be that you're-totally-screwed-now Effective-Win-Condition of the game, given the splash of fire and immediate end of Urist McTrailerStar. Does anybody know if I'm objectively correct? [link] [comments]

Is DF like Linux and Rimworld like Microsoft? Posted: 18 Aug 2020 11:12 PM PDT Rimworld is easy to get into although it does have a bit of a skill curve. It's the most well known and is very user friendly. A child could pick up the game and have a reasonable chance to understand the game. It's meant for a general audience with easy to understand controls Dwarf Fortress is a game not too different from Rimworld, lacking in many simplicities but making up for it with extensive controls and customization. It isn't meant to learn casually, you basically need an hour long tutorial just to get the game started. It's graphics are bare minimum (literally ascii) and allow for total re-customization. There are no clickable button prompts and the mouse is rarely used, creating a foreign control scheme for normal users. The game has a skill cap reaching the moon until you learn the controls (I'd even argue it's more complex than C:DDA). If you can get into it you will end up with a much better experience than those who play Rimworld albeit a minority because of it's difficulty to get into. Does this make sense? I find this to be an excellent analogy between the two games. I really like Rimworld, but DF seems to open and expansive and complex. Also it would be cool if someone made a mod replicating the scenario featured in Rimworld including the sci-fi elements and events as well as vice-versa mod with Dwarf Fortress in Rimworld. Posted: 18 Aug 2020 04:32 PM PDT So I am a regular adventure mode player and i always bring a wild animal for food that I kill at the start of the game just in case so today I brought a cougar and I chased it all around and by the time I butchered it and got the meat I noticed it's teeth where everywhere so i had to backtrack like 10 minutes of chasing and collect teeth to sell at the market [link] [comments] |
