The human 'poet' faded hunter who used undead magic to slay a weregiraffe

    Posted: 04 Jul 2020 06:00 PM PDT

I posted a previous thread about a really weird thing that happened during a weregiraffe attack. Someone asked me to look up that 'human poet faded hunter' in legends mode and see if there's any cool history. There is!

First off, weird thing. When she visited the fortress and attacked the werebeast, I'm pretty sure the combat log said she was male. But she's definitely the one who did the deed as she was the only human and the only intelligent undead who were visiting at the time. (Can a female agent have a male assumed identity? She's had multiple identities. I'm confused.)

Her name was 'Rosmo Queenales' and while her assumed identity was a 'poet' she's actually a drunk. She worships two gods: Ukap Strangerwander (a god of travelling) and Ulet the Gray Paint, a goddess of mercy, forgiveness, and painting.

Born in 537, she married and divorced twice, and then married a man named Dosheb Twistedlakes and had a daughter. This time, her love appeared true, as she stayed with Dosheb until he died of old age in 603. She never married or took a lover again after his death.

Both her son (from her first marriage) and daughter are alive and seek to become legendary heroes. The son (Embracethunder) has a long career of military campaigning.

In 567, (the same year she married Dosheb), she became Lady of Umbrarider, a hamlet populated almost entirely by outcast humans. She ruled 'The Mute Band' from a mead hall and began raiding nearby forts and settlements. Between 567-569, she waged war, participating in 27 separate assaults.

Rosmo was struck down by a grizzly bear in the hamlet of Rushedhour in the summer of 569. In the same year, she was raised by an enemy dwarven necromancer named Sarvesh Earthhand. But as Rosmo held no loyalty to Sarvesh, she began travelling on her own to find artifacts.

In Amuserag, in 615, she cast a covetous eye on red spinel bucket named Wanderrenown. Perhaps its name appealed to her as a devout worshipper of a god of travel? Or perhaps it reminded her of her children, out seeking fame and fortune in the world?

Despite her plans, she stole nothing and decided to slay an attacking weregiraffe with a wave of her hand to save the life of a wounded puppy. What motivated her in that moment? As far as I can tell, she has not fought anyone else since she was raised from the dead. Perhaps her goddess moved her to mercy.

Bonus: The weregiraffe was a 400 year old goblin priest (called a Holy Decency.) Before he was bit, he was a goblin criminal. Over the course of his reign of terror, he's killed and eaten 16 people and tons of beak dogs.

A noob in need of help

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 06:00 AM PDT

Hey, I'm wanting to start playing Dwarf Fortress. I have a mac, and I obviously started by installing the Lazy Mac Pack. I got the pack to run, I mainly used youtube explainers to get it to. The point is, there is no "play dwarf fortress!" button at the bottom of the LMP interface for some reason. As it says in the title I am a complete noob, and first I wondered if the basic game needs to be downloaded as well, but as far as I know the full game is integrated in the Lazy Mac Pack, right?

Can anyone help me figure out what is going on?
