Posted: 09 Jul 2020 06:17 AM PDT I see this picture around the Bay12 site and the wiki, but I couldn't find a good description of what exactly it is. To me, it's like a yellow dinosaur with a red eye pointing at something. Anybody know the real story? [link] [comments]
Story write-up for Shlagaflagadeebus Posted: 09 Jul 2020 11:41 AM PDT The Kingdoms of Death once had a great golden age, long forgotten by the sands of time and the actions of the gods. That golden age was in thanks to a single hero, born from the union of a human woman and a god of wisdom from the time before time. A hero who's mind was so brilliant they had commanded hundreds of battles and never tasted defeat, a hero who's incorruptibility won them the title of Law-Giver, a hero who ventured into the forest and single-handedly tamed giant lions and grizzly bears. A hero who was beloved even by both elves and dwarves alike. And a hero that the gods grew to despise. It was all fine for the first few years of their rule as Law-Giver of The Kingdoms of Death. The hero did many crusades against the cruel and evil goblins of the Entangled Tick, who refused to bow before the human and dwarven gods and spat upon the forest forces of the elves - they were spiritually bankrupt creatures that worshipped demons and therefore were the enemies of the gods. Even the dwarven gods turned a blind eye when the hero began to take slaves from the conquered goblin pits. No matter how reprehensible the act of treating intelligent creatures as property was to them, the goblins were even more reprehensible. It, surely, was the right course of action, and eventually the hero would get tired of all the fighting and either stop or die anyway. But the hero didn't stop. And the hero didn't die. The hero kept fighting. And fighting. They conquered and slaughtered, taking goblin pit after goblin pit, commanding battle after battle, carving a bloody path and enslaving everyone they found, be it goblins or baby-snatched elves and dwarves, until they finally pillaged the last Dark Fortress of the Entangled Tick and enslaved its demon Master, Shulmik the Wispy. This was one step too far for Nikuzmozib, the Dwarven goddess of trickery and vengeance. Well, trickery and vengeance in a technical sense - a more accurate description would be "goddess who smites mortals with hubris". And to a dwarf, nothing shows off your hubris more than enslaving someone, which the hero was extremely guilty of. She never liked the hero, but since the other gods were so proud of them, she never did anything even at the height of their conquest. Until they enslaved Shulmik the Wispy, for she had created a vault for that demon and summoned it from the underworld, and by enslaving it the hero had meddled in Nikuzmozib's plans, invoking her wrath to the point she finally decided to do something about this upstart human warmongerer. She appeared before an enslaved dwarf that worked in the palace of the hero in a dream (the dwarf had been snatched from his home at a young age to the goblin pits of the Entangled Tick, so he was enslaved in the conquest) and told him to kill the son of the hero, chop him up into small pieces and give the meat to the cook, saying it was meat from a special cow the hero wanted for their meal with their father. The dwarf did so, and when the hero's father, Mospar the god of widsom, came to eat with the hero, the cook roasted and seasoned the meat up into a mince, before serving it to Mospar. When Mospar took a taste of the meat, his near-infinite knowledge meant he instantly knew what it was and was immediately enraged with his child. He didn't react, however, and instead smiled and asked the hero a simple question. "This meat is delicious! What animal did it come from?" "Oh, thank you for the compliments, father. I'll tell the chef you were pleased. It's beef." Mospar exploded. That's not an exaggeration. He quite literally exploded into flames because of how angry he was. "YOU FOOL! FIRST YOU DARE CUT UP A HUMAN INTO PIECES AND SERVE IT TO ME, THE GOD OF KNOWLEDGE, AND THEN YOU LIE TO ME ABOUT IT?!" "F-father, I don't know what you're talking abou-" "I AM NOT YOUR FATHER! I WILL NOT ACCEPT YOU AS MY CHILD, YOU DISGUSTING HEATHEN! THIS ACTION IS BEYOND HUBRIS, IT IS SACRILEGE, AND YOU WILL SUFFER FOR IT!" "S-suffer? How-" "YOUR GLORY IN WAR CANNOT MAKE UP FOR YOUR GRAVE SIN. I WILL MAKE IT FORGOTTEN. YOU ARE TRULY LOWER THAN A GOBLIN, AND YOU WILL LIVE LIKE SUCH, FOR THE REST OF YOUR DAYS!" The hero screamed in pain as their body morphed, their eyes bulging in their skull as they became yellow and reptillian, their bones cracking as they shrunk. Before they knew it, they were a tiny creature, smaller than even a common dog and below even a goblin - they were a kobold. And the world forgot the name of the hero and the glory they gained in war. Even the slaves they took forgot their master and roamed the Kingdoms of Death as free citizens. The hero did not understand what had happened to them, so they went to the nearest kobold settlement to look for answers. The atrocities committed by the hero there are not worthy of being retold. Needless to say, they didn't find the answers they were looking for and that settlement isn't around anymore. But they did gain a new name there - Shlagaflagadeebus, which in the kobold dialect of the old settlement meant "Evil Thing from Distant Lands". It was under this name that they plundered the nation they once called home for bronze and copper armour, before heading up the mountains to train with an elven monk, who taught them the ways of combat and archery. Nikuzmozib failed in destroying the hubris of Shlagaflagadeebus. Instead, she only made it worse. They once thought they could do whatever they wanted and the gods would not intervene. Now they know that the gods are imperfect, even the one they loved and respected the most, and wants nothing more than vengeance against them. While they know that true vengeance is impossible, they do know that they could at least spite them. So they trained for a gladiator tournament, in the hopes of creating new glory to replace that which they had lost, and perhaps... They still don't know why they were punished so severely by their father. They don't think they'll ever know. But perhaps they'll regain their father's favour. Perhaps they'll be called their father's child again. [link] [comments]

Can't view movie that marks the death of my first fort :( Posted: 09 Jul 2020 04:48 AM PDT Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening all :) My first fort apparently created a portal to hell by striking the earth. Once I got the first few notifications, I knew it was over and that I would enjoy sitting back and watching but I wanted to record the moment so I used the movies command and started recording. My fort died, obviously when being attacked by demons/brutes or vomit, fire, and steam. I did not stop the recording before my fort died and then I closed the game. Is that an issue? Now I don't know how to view my Things I've tried:
You can get the cmv from here Anyone have any ideas? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 04:21 PM PDT Picked up the game again after a few years out. Have been watching alot of Kruggsmash recently so been mentally preparing for the moment a beast appears. I make sure I've got a walled moat which is a couple of z levels deep, drawbridge, doors ready to be sealed. Military training under way with steel weapons and armour ready to go. Beast is sighted. I panic; "Get everyone in the burrow! Raise the bridge! Hurry up!!" However, I pause. I notice that the beast is in the moat. Bobbing up and down. Dropping a few levels then rising. It slowly moves about as I take it one step at a time but it continues to sink and rise, only moving a few spaces at a time. Then, suddenly, it changes back. Into a Dwarf Chieften. He then proceeds to sink to the bottom of the moat and then promptly drowns. I engraved a little slab in his honour and put it in my memorial garden. RIP. [link] [comments]
