Dwarfs! Share your skill set based on your job ! Posted: 03 Mar 2020 04:44 AM PST For example. I am a naval engineer student. So I guess I would be a novice mechanics + novice siege engineer + novice pump operator. If you think a best description for my skills, please share, I have very few hours in df. Had the very first dragon attack in years of playing. Here's how it went! Posted: 03 Mar 2020 06:16 AM PST Been playing DF for more than 3 years now. My current and the greatest fort ever fought off 2 giants, 2 ettins, bronze colossus, and a cyclops, but today the fort was close to collapse as a dragon decided to pay a visit. Tusnung Uslotstraza set the entire map on fire (again, after I accidentally set it on fire with firestarter command), slaughtered great number of my war dogs and several dwarves until it was brought down on top of forts wall. And it wasn't some legendary soldiers who did that, but humble barely experienced marksdwarves. Shows how unpredictable the combat is in DF. Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:56 AM PST While commenting to another user, I noticed an aggregious violation of forum protocol. This game has no YAFD thread (what I can only imagine would be the DF equivalent of a YASD/YAAD). I just had my first truely !!Fun!! experience. Now, I'm a bit spoiled, and no offence to the guy, but Kruggs'y got me interested in what lurks below. I really just wanted to find my first caverns to explore and not just desperately wall off. I finally found my cavern, at about - 200ish and it immediately led me to 1)the ocean beneath, and 2)Adamantium. We had only carved out a single piece of the column, but to out dismay, it was not from the top. To save from spoiling anything, the fires were epic. Everything burned. Everything. Did you know marble can melt? I know I didn't. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Mar 2020 02:13 AM PST After playing rogues like Sil, DCSS, Telnet based rogues in the past, etc. I've decided to give DF a try. It seems like there's a lot of story and depth in the world's of this game and that really speak to me. I'll be watching guide video's once I get home from work to know where/how to start. (thinking Fortress mode) Any tips/tricks or stuff I should really know to start out? [link] [comments]

Increasing Performance Questions and PC Hardware Questions Posted: 02 Mar 2020 04:49 PM PST So I have been thinking about buying a new PC for some time now and you are the only people who won't laugh when I say I want to build the hardware around being able to run DF as smooth as possible. Forgive me general lack of understanding of software/hardware but it is to my knowledge that DF only can utilize a single core processor not multicores. So do I bite the bullet and get an i9 processor? or will an i7 processor match the single core processing of the i9? Also is there anything I can do ingame to increase the overall FPS in the late stages of a fortress (120+ Dwarf citizens) Ive gotten used to playing DF at 5-10 FPS and treat it like a turn based game at that point but if there is potential that I could keep the fps at even just 30 I could progress my games faster. Any other PC advice to help me in this en-devour would be appreciated :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Mar 2020 01:56 PM PST Or "How my above ground fort of 50+ dwarves fell to an undead monotreme" The dwarven fortress of Ducimråsh ("Workeddie") began in the early spring of the year 402. The seven founders of Workeddie had grand ambitions for their small plot of land and immediately set to work. A quarry was dug and a wooden building constructed, as the expedition leader drew up plans of a great stone fortress that would provide food, water, shelter, and protection for his citizens. All went well for four glorious years. The dwarves toiled over their lands and reaped many riches, building up a grand meeting hall, a high tower of rooms for each and every dwarf, and a humble but sturdy tavern. A tavern that, unknowingly, would spell doom for the walled bastion of Workeddie. One fair day, a visitor came to The Granite Crypt-Brunch (Workeddie's simple tavern). The visitor was a human necromancer, whose name was lost to time. As the student of death left Crypt-Brunch, he stumbled upon the corpse of a hunted echidna. Wether it was out of sadness, malice, or for mere sport, the necromancer brought the dead animal back to life and then continued on his way. And so marked the end of Workeddie. The echidna ran into the fortress, through an open hole in the soon-to-be-finished new wall. Oh the terror! Dwarves fought and fell, dying for the fortress they called home. Death reigned that day in Workeddie, and those who were able fled into the The Granite Crypt-Brunch. There, in the tavern that started the end, the last of the dwarves took their stand. And so fell the great Workeddie. To this day, some say they hear the wails of fallen dwarves coming from the ruins of Workeddie. And when the wind is right and a brave soul ventures near, howls emerge from the Tavern-Crypt and long dead eyes peer out from the shadows. Now you know why you should fear the night.
