How long did it take you to learn dwarf fortress? Posted: 11 Nov 2019 07:53 AM PST Hi guys. I've started getting into DF and have made some decent progress. I learned how to mine out an area and make an indoor farm and a carpentry workshop. I've also made bedrooms and a storage pile. But that's all.. This was in about 2 days. I've read other forums and a lot of players mention it took them roughly 2 weeks to a month to properly have a functional knowledge of the game. Others I saw say it took them hundreds of hours and they are still learning which seems a bit daunting haha. How long did it take you guys? Be honest haha [link] [comments] | ||
Training for military dwarfs should be more in depth and have a few more options. Posted: 10 Nov 2019 10:30 PM PST Current dwarven military training is rather sparse, with most of it surrounding continual training in the form of drills and training in the form of actual combat. While these were and are still real ways to train soldiers I feel like DF misses out on big aspects of military training. First, when you put someone in the militia they just start doing spars and demonstrations to train, which is much more akin to continual training that is used to maintain skills rather than develop new ones. I think you should be able to run a sort of "Dwarven boot camp" where dwarfs will spend all day eating, sleeping and drinking together and doing more intensive training exercises. This will grow their fighting skills faster but at the expense of making them more stressed out and make dwarfs that enjoy family and friends even more stressed out (on account of being away from family for the training most of the time) this intensive training would also have diminishing returns, where 2-3 months of it would be very quick to make the dwarfs good fighters but if you run it for another 3 months it would be less effective and cause even more stress. The effectiveness of intense training could also depend on how disciplined and how good of a leader/teacher the "Drill Dwarf" is. This could work as an order as well, so you could set a unit to do intensive training for a month every year or do it for 2-4 months then take them off. I also think that dwarven military nobels should get together and 'discuss plans' and 'discuss tactics' and that would slowly grow the nobels military tactics skill and may even require them to have a special office to do it in.
