Ask about anything related to Dwarf Fortress - including the game, utilities, bugs, problems you're having, mods, etc. You will get fast and friendly responses in this thread.

Read the sidebar before posting! It has information on a range of game packages for new players, and links to all the best tutorials and quick-start guides. If you have read it and that hasn't helped, mention that!

You should also take five minutes to search the wiki - if tutorials or the quickstart guide can't help, it usually has the information you're after. You can find the previous questions thread here.

If you can answer questions, please sort by new and lend a hand - linking to a helpful resource (eg wiki page) is fine.

Give Me Some Inspiration For My Next Fort!

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 01:23 AM PST

I've been playing Dorf Fort for a few years now, have had an abundance of wacky adventures and FUN losses, but lately I've been lacking inspiration for a long-term fortress.

What I'm looking to accomplish is to build an aesthetically pleasing but practical fort. Something very Dwarfy in nature. I've tried the "above ground human-style castle" shtick before but I can never seem to get that quite right, and ultimately I tend to get bored of the motte & bailey thing.

If y'all have any ideas or forts to share [yours or found elsewhere] in the same vein I'd really appreciate the help <3

This age of peace is ending

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:01 PM PST

Over the last 144 years us dwarves of The Rainy Labor have extended our civilization across the world of Amethaanenu, The Windy Planets. Thousands of brave dwarves have left their homes, settling unclaimed wilderness and building proud mountainhomes. It has been an age of exploration and adventure, but also one of peace. While word about conflicts between elves, humans and goblins have reached our ears many times, we ourselves have led lives free of war.

Thus far. But concern is spreading. In the dark corners of our taverns, in the quiet of the night while out on patrol, dwarves voice their fears in hushed tones. Fears of war, fears of losing our homes. Fears of death. In such dark moments, many of us find comfort in faith.

All across our civilization, dwarves beg to the god of war and chaos to be spared such horrors, or for the strength to survive them. We ask the god of longevity and fortresses to let our homes stand strong against invaders, to outlast any siege. Spoken in fear and reverence, His name spreads across our world like a wildfire.

    Urist, the God of War
