Visiting Human Pilgrim Decides He's Not Going To Have It... lol...

    Posted: 06 Jan 2022 05:38 PM PST

had just gotten my military together right before a siege. i wasn't sure they where up for a ' toe to toe ' with this mixed goblin/dwarf force. so i decided to close up the fort and wait them out.

got several taverns, and so their are frequent visitors. unfortunately, a human pilgrim didn't make the front gate before lock-down commenced; hard piece of luck.

i'd forgotten to clean up the ' front yard ' of previous various corpses, uncollected dead prey animals etc.

i decide i'm going to watch him get disassembled but the invaders. but wait... he's a human pilgrim necromancer, lol! he starts raising all the langurs, kangaroos, former dworf mates, etc.

and he gives them such a run for their money, they eventually flee!

lol... didn't see that one coming. even though he succumbed, i will erect a sculpture garden in his memory...

    Family Matters

    Posted: 05 Jan 2022 03:35 PM PST

A little less than a year into an embark, with my third wave of migrants just reaching my tavern, I am attacked by a wereantelope child. Due to poor placement (a wall is going to be put up once I have enough blocks of the same type), the wereantelope is... 12 tiles from the fortress entrance.

Violence ensues. Of course, my smithy has only just been built, so my woodcutter is still my best soldier, except he was roughly 20 z levels down in his room. The wereantelope works quickly, and outright kills three dwarves and wounds another. Luckily, one of the new migrants (soon to be appointed militia captain) gets a shot off with his crossbow, destroying the brain of the wereantelope before it can finish off the wounded dwarf.

Of course, I can take no chances with the wounded Urist, one Domas Ögredushat, and fiddle around in the menus trying to remember how to banish him. Oh, interesting, he has a few kills from before arriving here, including two notable ones.

Wow, that's a really long title for that Dwarf he killed, Minkot Orbworshipped the Lashes of Thundering. Oh, and he has a couple children. Including... the wereantelope.

Now I'm just theory crafting about Domas's past. Maybe killing Minkot brought a curse down on his family, and he tried to run in shame from them. The wereantelope child followed him, however, and just barely managed to pass on the curse before being killed.

    What a neat game

[ZM5 Mods] PTSD Simulation - An End to an Adventure

    Posted: 05 Jan 2022 04:55 PM PST

My latest adventure ended in a rather horrific way. The party I rolled up consisted of Abhan the White Fomor (occult goat person with light magic) axeman, Garn the Oblivion Death Guard swordsman, G'ine the Swine Piglet (based on Wilbur) maceman, and Jerte the Kul Tiran Tidesage spearwoman (admittedly armed with an energy staff for up-close combat)

Things were going as usual with my adventures, killing bandits, occasionally being attacked by various restless undead in the night, until I noticed this rumor among the list of rumors Abhan had available - the name "the Profane Heaven" caught my eye, along with its resident, so I figured it was worth going there. The party headed down there, where they encountered the Thing from the Stars. The snowy woodland and weather certainly set the mood for the coming battle.

Things went wrong almost immediately, with G'ine getting his neck broken and then getting a massive hole stabbed through his chest. He died a mangled, bloodied heap, unable to breathe, as the Thing summoned more Crystalline Aberrations from the ground. Only comparable thing the party had was Jerte's ability to call up a Sea Elemental, but it had a far longer cooldown than the Thing's crystal summon.

Abhan was the next to go, similarly having his neck twisted - then his head was stomped to a pulp. Then Garn lost a hold of his cleaver and was reduced to flailing with his shield as the Thing ate him alive, eventually making him bleed to death. One of Jerte's legs was crippled and she was missing one of her hands, so this surely would have been the end of her, right?

To my surprise, the Thing bled to death from all the accumulated damage it took. Seeing as it was dead, Jerte crawled away through the snow, as the remaining crystalline aberrations chimed - presumably the noise would haunt her to the end of her days.

I retired her at a nearby Fomor town. Presumably she's just a curiosity to the goat men at this point, drinking herself to death at the local tavern, complaining about the "chiming" and trembling at the sight of gemstones, especially light blue ones.
