    Ask about anything related to Dwarf Fortress - including the game, utilities, bugs, problems you're having, mods, etc. You will get fast and friendly responses in this thread.

    Read the sidebar before posting! It has information on a range of game packages for new players, and links to all the best tutorials and quick-start guides. If you have read it and that hasn't helped, mention that!

    You should also take five minutes to search the wiki - if tutorials or the quickstart guide can't help, it usually has the information you're after. You can find the previous questions thread here.

    If you can answer questions, please sort by new and lend a hand - linking to a helpful resource (eg wiki page) is fine.

    Kitfox no longer working with Meph - per new email update.

    Hello!

    Unfortunately, we've decided to end our partnership with Meph, although we wish him well in the future. Meph was working on many of the sprites for the Steam version of Dwarf Fortress. It is disappointing to all of us personally, but only a minor setback for the project - Kitfox is already talking to a couple of other artists to help us finish things up. We believe this is the best way forward, and that it won't delay the game significantly.

    We'll need to rework some of the art behind the scenes, so there might not be screenshots or videos for a little while, but programming on the menus and things is ongoing. There's still some months of code work to do while the new artist(s) get up to speed, so everything should end up on track

    First of all, sorry for making a separated thread, but I thought that my opinion is more or less wrong given the culture nowadays. For context, a great contributor of DF was involved in some issue with art license and ownership.

    Going into discussion threads, I was expecting to see more upset people. There are... but not as much as I was thinking. I feel that I am so tired out by all the angry internet attacks, upset gamers, dramatic artists, crazy Yter and Streamer, all kind of licensing and copyright outrages that I expected much worse.

    Seeing people acting mature and understanding really reminded me of when I first play DF. God damn, DF is such an old game!

    It was a much more simpler time, lawless. I remember modders and fans tried so many things to make the game more exciting. Almost everything made by community was considered open source, and there's an exciting sense of being part of something greater.

    In today's culture and environment, what the community did in the past might not be as welcoming... but it was so sweet. It feels... nostalgic looking back at what happened leading to this event. (and more or less the reason for this thread)

    The present-future DF is not the same as the one in the past. I really hope everyone involved will not be too upset about these changes. After all, everything they did contribute greatly to the enjoyment of every DF fans - we have !FUN! with the game.

    Graphics mod

    I tried to download the graphics mod for dwarf fortress, but i've seen no guides or anything on how to enable it, all i have is the starter pack and i cant find any other .exe files

    Tileset Making Help Needed!

    I kinda want to stumble upon Vettingr, Meph or other pro in this departament.

    I have a few questions concerning tileset making, namely I love the Taffer's tileset, but he unfortunately retired. So I decided to download it and kitbash it and to certain degree I've succeeded and I like what I have. I want to learn more, though and unfortunately I've hit a wall. If you're an individual with experience and you're willing to help me out by answering questions and showing me how to get something done, feel free to hit me up on Discord, NARC#0965

    Questions are:

    • How do I make a TWBT compatible tileset?
    • How do I modify engraved ASCII-like walls and floors?
    • Where can I find a repository of tiles used for props and creatures, if I ever decide to do creature graphics?

    It's the one in the bottom, showing dirt with ramps and adventure character in a middle. How did he do that? I want to know that, it looks amazing.

    Game seems to be rather poorly optimised for multi-core processors

    My forts invariably face an FPS death once population hits around 150 citizens, even though I have i7-4790 and the game loads CPU up to 30% at most. DFHack optimising commands help, but only if population is below 100.

    Cleaning Mud

    There reaally should be a mechanic for designating dwarfs to clean mud tyles. I'm tired of smoothing, engraving, building floors, just to clean water mess-ups.

    I've tried using tiletypes to clean but have not been able to. Can someone illuminate me?
