Posted: 08 May 2021 01:43 AM PDT Plant gathering somehow can easily feed a entire fortress with big surplus when compared to other methods of food supply. 5 dwarfs with no skills that were just ordered to gather plants continuously have brought my forts supply to booze and prepared meals to over 4000 each while at the same time feeding a fortress of 150 dwarfs. Plant gathering is also too reliable because aboveground crops grow the entire year. My solution would be to change the population and growth speed of the wild crops according to the season so that the current abundance would only happen in summer and for tree fruits and such in autuum. In the winter there would be no crops, so that you would have to look for an alternative during that time. Cave crops would grow the entire year, so there would be a risk-reward situation there.
