    Valuable Extracts

    Selling Water and Magma

So I have a fort with water in the first cavern, and lava in the second. Super solid setup. I got a pump room set up for each so that I can make minecarts filled with magma or water whenever. Anyways, the elven caravan came recently (I'm only friendly because I want elephants, I swear!) and I noticed in my "extracts" category, the minecarts of water and lava were included :D

Apparently, just adding water (or magma) adds a significant amount of value to a cart. Sadly, still not as valuable as a pot of food, but also it's totally possible to start mass producing wooden carts and fill them with water. So maybe a more broken money maker? Assuming you have a lot of trees.

Anyways, I did end up selling the magma cart to the elves. I'm curious what they'll even use it for, living in trees and all...

    Edit: subtitle,

can't seem to get the pic to show, but a nickel minecart is like 300, with magma 1200~,

water adds like 800ish to a 200ish or less wooden cart.

Healing adventurers in adventure mode with Dfhack

    Posted: 07 May 2021 12:38 PM PDT

I have discovered how to heal an adventurer in adventure mode, considering there is currently no way to prevent infections in the current version, you can put in the console:

    Full-heal -all

This works in adventure mode, i have tested it, so if you really do not want your adventurer to die of infection, you can now do it, i did not find this info anywhere else, so i am putting it here.

    Sorry for my english btw.

Finding Love in a Dwarven Metropolis

    Posted: 06 May 2021 03:37 PM PDT

TL;DR just some wacky head canon about life in a massive fort from a dwarf perspective rather than player's. In honor of my random 200 dwarf forts where I'll have citizens for years that I don't even notice until someone dies and needs a replacement

Urist had been living in the fortress of Pagespanked for several years now. Now if anyone asked him why he moved to a fort in a cursed jungle where it rained dust that converted you into a super-powered zombie all he could really account for was that he felt "commanded" as if some unseen force told him to join those other migrants and head to this God awful place.

He arrived with a wave of animal trainers and soap makers and they were all immediately drafted into the military while he was ignored. In fact in the years he had been here he had done virtually no labors, much to his frustration.

It was as if the fort had forgotten he existed to even assign them!

And oddly he had always been told that city life was very fast paced, but here with several hundred dwarves in this cramped space things felt agonizingly slow. A single step seemed to take minutes.

He spent his days between tavern, temple and his room. Most dwarves here slept on the floor as for some reason no one ever planned to build enough rooms and so he was quite lucky for this.

Things were interesting here for other dwarves. He'd see troops marching back home from battles covered in entrails, dangerous dust, hacking up blood or whatever else with this nightmarish distant look in their eyes.

Mad over-worked dwarves, lucky things, being dragged out and exiled from the fort before they hurt someone.

And people carrying trade goods to the depot, which he occasionally got to enjoy doing himself.

In fact the most interesting thing was one of the homeless dwarves in the fort being killed by a vampire just outside his room while he slept! Horrifying to hear of as he sat around the tavern that day. They chained the vampire up and were training it how to fight, but he'd likely never hear of the results.

Really he just wanted a family and there were other dwarves like him who were seemingly forgotten. So he had developed some relationships here, but not strong ones. there were TOO many dwarves one couldn't invest the time in a relationship to develop it.

Twice he had developed an interest in a she-dwarf only for the first one to get drafted in filling an open spot in the military

and the second being sent to be a fisherdwarf to fill the spot of one who went insane from rain.

It was really sort of depressing waiting in line to be the next dwarf given a purpose here, but you know what? Every day he got to feel euphoric from inebriation and most of the working dwarves didn't even have time for that! That's a victory in itself.

    Artifact named after dwarf

    Artifact named after dwarf

\"I have created this, my magnum opus, which I name after myself...\"

So this happened. (I name my dwarves after components taken from the parent names, or if there are no parents, after some interests. Sometimes I'll combine two components if they make thematic sense to me - 'treasure' and 'ocean' gets a dwarf baby named Pirate, and 'fire'and 'earth' gets 'Magma', etc.)

    Recursive artifact is recursive.
