    Ask about anything related to Dwarf Fortress - including the game, utilities, bugs, problems you're having, mods, etc. You will get fast and friendly responses in this thread.

    Read the sidebar before posting! It has information on a range of game packages for new players, and links to all the best tutorials and quick-start guides. If you have read it and that hasn't helped, mention that!

    You should also take five minutes to search the wiki - if tutorials or the quickstart guide can't help, it usually has the information you're after. You can find the previous questions thread here.

    If you can answer questions, please sort by new and lend a hand - linking to a helpful resource (eg wiki page) is fine.

    ALL my dwarves died as soon as I started the game because it seems that those dumb fucks didn't know caravans couldn't swim. I wasn't even able to move because 10 seconds after embarking I was already dead. Fastest FUN I ever had in Dwarf Fortress

    swordsdwarf was caught outside during a werebeaver attack.He accidentally dodged into a very deep pond and drowned.The werebeaver rushed to kill more dwarves but also fell in the very deep pond.FUN times

    Parallels with Rimworld

    Been playing a lot of Rimworld lately, and it seems to just be a blatant ripoff of Dwarf Fortress...

    Except Rimworld is much much worse: absolutely no z-levels, TINY populations and inability for anyone to have kids, a romance function that amounts to a catcall simulator (and leads to way too many mental breakdowns and tantrum spirals for single men), inability to revisit/reclaim abandoned colonies (and no way to "retire" them), inability to settle across multiple biome types, no real ability to control the size of the map tiles for different colonies in a world, no ability to control your starting equipment (even as a "rich adventurer" who decided to settle a colony on his/her own), and constant annoying random events that seem to be a substitute for decent/expanded game fundamentals...

    I'm wondering if anyone else has spent a lot of time with both games (have sunk literally hundreds of hours in Dwarf Fortress) and finds the similarities glaring? The poor design/oversimplification of many aspects of Rimworld make me appreciate Dwarf Fortress much, much more...
