Sent a dwarf to annoy some elves. He did not take the easy route.

    How do you embark

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 06:08 AM PST

This is a copy of a poll I did on r/polls. I did not get good results on r/polls because a lot of people didn't know what Dwarf Fortress is. Only 4 people chose anything other than the "I don't play dwarf fortress" option on r/polls (compared to the 31 people who did choose that option).

*I don't know what else to call them. Pre-made embark profiles are embark options that you saved after doing "prepare for the journey carefully", ones that have been downloaded from online (I assume), and embark profiles that are included in the LNP/ Starter Pack (if you use that).

**This option is just here so this poll is just like the one on r/polls.

What are some edits you've made to the raw files to get your game feeling "right"? Expansive changes or simple edits are cool!

Site governments with white icons controlling other site governments in Legends Viewer

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 01:18 AM PST

Images that aid in explanation: https://postimg.cc/gallery/fdYNCmT

I notice often on the legends viewer civ map that there are patches of a lot of sites with white civ icons that appear all at once somewhere in the timeline. When I take the year that they appear and then go to look at that year the event history of the previous owner of these sites, which is a always normally colored (red for dwarves, blue for humans, green for goblins, yellow for elves) civ, there is always a big war between this normal civ and a random site government. These phantom site governments are not associated with any larger civ, and don't actually occupy any sites or have any associated locations. The first event in its history is usually " historical figure name became overlord of phantom site government name " and then hundreds of years of nothing until they go to war with a real civilization. They will conquer sites, installing these strange white-icon site governments in the sites that they conquer. In the page for the phantom site government, it will list all of the white-icon site governments created during the war as being "related entities". If you look at any of these related governments, it will tell you " white-icon site gov name is a site government of race of original phantom site government name ".

I find it very strange and have no clue what is going on. I also hope this isn't too confusing to anyone. Does anyone else know what this is all about?
