    ☼Bi-weekly DF Questions Thread☼

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 04:09 PM PST

Ask about anything related to Dwarf Fortress - including the game, utilities, bugs, problems you're having, mods, etc. You will get fast and friendly responses in this thread.

Read the sidebar before posting! It has information on a range of game packages for new players, and links to all the best tutorials and quick-start guides. If you have read it and that hasn't helped, mention that!

You should also take five minutes to search the wiki - if tutorials or the quickstart guide can't help, it usually has the information you're after. You can find the previous questions thread here.

If you can answer questions, please sort by new and lend a hand - linking to a helpful resource (eg wiki page) is fine.

I made a maximum sized world with no population or site cap and here's what happened (images included)

I made a maximum sized world with no population or site cap and here's what happened (images included)

Look at that purple glob of death in the middle! Literally nothing sapient lives there. not even werebeasts or megabeasts

I was playing with advanced world gen and saw I could have no cap at all on sites or populations or site populations

me deciding on number of megabeasts "Hmm number of megabeasts? Let's do 1000 yeah" We're still in the age of myth if you're wondering

There's a few hundred kobolds still alive don't let the chart deceive you

Several elven nations have over 90 settlements

Several human settlements have over 100

Goblins don't have more than 60 a nation

Dwarves are actually the least successful species in this world!

Three kobold civilizations died because megabeasts happen to like caves and so do kobolds. Math didn't add up well for them.

Elves, humans and goblin civs average close to 10k citizens per group with some who are close to death for each, but they're the exceptions.

Only one dead Dwarf civ whom the gods really must have not liked. The Oar of Battles: Their first king became a necromancer to rule the world, but was eaten by a titan who destroyed the capitol city and then just left to go hang out in the forest.

They had spawned in between two mountains and on either side was a goblin civilization who took turns beating them up for spare change while the dwarves rebuilt. Dwarves reclaim their first city and then dig too deep and start the end of the world in the south and proceed to get wiped out.

Humans are actually waging war more than goblins in this world, and they're WINNING more than goblins in this world

Green is goblin, blue humans, red dwarves, and yellow is elves

Also there's this dwarf civilization: They're 100% isolated in these mountains with no way out. Only one kobold cave and some random monsters living in the area and so they're just thriving!

Take a stroll to the haunted bog if you wanna stretch your legs

Just thought it was all interesting. World is stupid overpopulated. I only generated to year 150: Why?

I actually wanna play it! I wanna do a series of forts conquering the surrounding region. Once I succeed and finish that particular fort I have to start another one in another region and repeat with variety. It'll also let me keep the same dwarves so I can build some attachment as they migrate to my new places.

[Masterwork] Trying to understand the exported maps

[Masterwork] Trying to understand the exported maps

So, I exported some maps and such with DFHack using exportlegends all, and have some questions about them.

•On maps such as rainfall and temperature, do lighter colors correlate to higher or lower amounts?

•On the biome map, what biome does each color represent?

•What are these sites? How do I interpret this?

•Are there keys for each these maps somewhere? I'd love some keys that help make these maps make sense
