Just got attacked by a fire dragon...

Using the lazy newb pack.

Finally have a great fortress going, with steel armored military. Have about 20 military dwarves mixed between all weapons.

Fire dragon shows up, starts burning the forest down and killing wild animals. Trees start collapsing, which is really annoying btw. Every 3 steps the game pauses and zooms to the site of said collapse.

Anyway, dragon finally makes it's way into my fortress and battle ensues, which is more of a bloodbath honestly. Kills/mames all of my non master military dwarves almost instantly, and am left with about 4 weapons masters. Fight phases between some of them getting knocked out, and leaving about one or two fighting. Finally the others snap out of it and the dragon gets ganged up on by 2 master spear dwarves, a master sword dwarf,a master mace dwarf, and a few wrestlers that got knocked initially.

Swordmaster gets his foot ripped off after sparring with the dragon on his own for about 40 steps. Wrestler gets bit on the tongue and the dragon proceeds to flail him around by the tongue until the body part is ripped off in an arc.

Finally my master spear dwarf lands a blow on the dragons right front foot, chipping the bone, tearing a ligament, tendon, and pulling the leg. The dragon falls, and gets ganged up on. Dragon takes multiple spear lodging hits to the skull, and the brain is finally torn. God damn, I did it!

I really had resigned myself to losing my first real fort to a fire breathing dragon. Definitely didn't think I'd make it. lost about 35 dwarves, only because I had given up and cancelled burrow orders. Maybe that's what saved me, because a bone carver got into the fray, and actually landed some punches lol.

My fort will live to see another day!
