- Not my very first fort but the first fort where I actually learned a lot of stuff. A lot of hardships occurred when I made this. I pictured this before a necromancer with 100+ undead laid siege at my fortress. This is truly the Dwarf Fortress experience

Posted: 02 Aug 2020 09:32 PM PDT My dwarves have a goal at last. The forges will burn brightly in preparation to slay the last dragon - Ziril Fountunesparks. This dragon has been around since the year 1 slaying dwarves, elves, men, and goblins. Womenhold the legendary steel buckler and Borescandal the legendary copper war hammer will be liberated from the beasts horde and shall rest in Depth oar. Mark the words of Olon Pulleypeace! So my first fortress just fell apart... Posted: 02 Aug 2020 02:08 PM PDT Our mountain home was a booming, beautiful place. 82 dwarves dwelt in luxuries rooms and drank in our legendary great hall. We even had some welcome outsiders, human monster hunters helping us deal with the trogodolytes in the mines. Things were good. One of our only problems was that we were missing metals, the only weapons and extra tools we had were all from trading. But we didn't worry, we delved deeply and greedily into the endless depths, sooner or later we would find something... The troubles started with the arrival of a monstrous creature that struck fear into the heart of our dwarves, a beastly weregecko. One dwarf fell immediately as he was engraving the walls of the entrance as the beast rushed into the fortress. It no doubt would have destroyed our prosperous mountain home if it wasn't met by our brave militia in our great hall. Armed with spears, warhammers hammers and battle axes, they made quick work of the beast. We didn't know as we celebrated and buried the dead dwarf with full honors that we sealed our doom. Not long after, disaster struck. As our dwarves were recovering from their wounds in the newly opened hospital and things were beginning to return to normal sudden shouts and shrieks filled our halls as the wounded, who were unbeknownst to us infected themselves, turned into the same kind of monstrous creatures, tearing their doctors to pieces and unleashing great carnage on the fortress. The battles that followed were bloody and brutal... but not unwinnable. After a series of transformations and heroic fights the last of the infected were either dead or quarantined. We knew that our fortress would never be the same. Half of our people were dead, our militia was all but wiped out and most of the living were working on coffins, burials and cleaning up the carnage. It wasn't the end however. We had generous stocks, enough food and drink to keep us going for years and the fortress finally seemed safe. That's when a deadly shriek was heard from the mines, the shriek of an awakened forgotten beast, stirred to life again no doubt by our efforts to dig deeper and deeper into the mountain. We knew what it meant... Soon enough our once bustling workshops, taverns and temples were silent, only drying bones and the monstrous cobwebs of the best stood as testament for what once was...
