Invading undead versus my "guard dog" - a giant fire-breathing earthworm! Posted: 24 Jul 2020 06:25 AM PDT

Posted: 24 Jul 2020 11:34 AM PDT I've had well over 30 reports of missing cats in my fort! I would check the combat log and no combat I would check our garbage disposal(it goes into the magma sea) nope nothing to indicate and I spent hours of just enduring missing cats and was sure they must just be slipping into the garbage chute even though no one else in the fort was. Answer? We use every cavern layer and the surface for lumber, and so the cats freely wander onto every cavern layer and explore and since it can take them longer than a week to return to the fort the game reports them missing as if they died, but they're all alive and spamming my notifications! Ballad of the Pits, Verse the Second - The Grand Melee (A song for EVERY Gladiator!) Posted: 24 Jul 2020 09:28 AM PDT (Edit: Due to an overzealous automoderator, the entirety of the text may be read here!) In the betting halls of the grand Arena, where gruesome voyeurs wager coin on the blood of warriors, there stands a small stage along the far wall. It is here, among the hustle and bustle of drunken clamor and sordid vice, that a small band of swamp-dwellers sets up their instruments. Many in attendandce are face-deep in drink, still mourning the loss of their chosen champions or dreading their odds tommorrow. But even the most haggard drunks raise their heads as the band prepares, and smiles creep onto gray faces as the colorful ensemble assembles; swamp-dwellers all, amphibians and otters and even a leech-man, robed in outlandish hues of puffed fabric. A stout and stately toad-man leads the group; Bertram, Toad-Bard Extraordinaire, Understudy to the late Gilbert. He puffs himself up proudly as he proclaims the band's intent; "Ladies and gentle-beasts, Sirs and others; once again, the Traveling Band of the Magnificent Marsh is pleased to play for your entertainment. Tomorrow, more souls shall perish in glorious combat, and more heroic figures shall rise at their expense; but today, we honor the fallen of the first round - with a verse for every single competitor! This herculean feat was first planned by our leader, Gilbert, whose fate you shall hear for yourselves. Please enjoy!" The band begins to play a merry jig, and soon the room is suffused with noise and cheer. ~ A hundred mighty warriors came To fight for fortune and for fame But only thirty-two remain To battle in the Pit! To battle in the Pit! ~ Sixty-four warriors Stepped onto the sand! And by the sunset, half were gone, Cut down where they stand. Brave souls all! No cowards in the lot! We honor them with bardic verse, They shall not be forgot... A hundred mighty warriors came, To fight for fortune and for fame, We sing today for all the slain, Remember well their names! Remember well their names! ~ Nora the philosopher, in search of noble name, She strolled in with a sun-hat And sharp and shiny blade; Jack-e-chan! A fearless grem-e-lin! He lived to fight in tavern brawls, But hubris was his sin... The gremlin came with rabid rage To maul the maiden fair! She lopped his leg and cut him down And left without a care, And left without a care. ~ Shlagaflagadeebus Thought themselves a god! A kobold set to fight the fates, Clad in shining bronze. Anyola the love-bird, Assassin twice-concealed! The burdens of her tragic past Have yet to be revealed... The arrow flew from godly bow But flew too far and wide! Anyola made the kobold know The bloody price of pride, The bloody price of pride. ~ Kol Tatloshok, A dwarven archeress! Hailing from Rintorngalak, She came here on a quest. Boris the Bottomless, Sage of ancient carp! A gnome who left his hearth and home To study deadly art... And like the deadly fish of yore, The enemy of every dwarf, So Boris bit and thrashed and hit And drowned upon the shore, And drowned upon the shore. ~ Odsnen the Strangler, By goblins was enslaved! By victory or gruesome death, His freedom did he crave. Tulantuk the Cave-Man, Wand'rer of the depths! A sea between him and his home, He may find passage yet... The spears, they flew - the warriors knew That one would meet their end! T'was Odsnen who was finally skewed, The Caveman lives to fight again! He lives to fight again. ~ Shammansub the Muskox, Honorary Dwarf! Unbested in the battlefield, He craved for something more. Romek Sagar! A wolfman of the dark! With hammer, fang and mighty claw, For glory he embarked... The hammer-blows were not enough To fell the mighty ox! He raised his axe and brought it down To shreds, the wolf was chopped. To shreds, the wolf was chopped. ~ Hacker-Man, the snake! His ego he must slake! Dismissed from parent's ba-se-ment, He slung about his weight. Leg-o-Lamme! No pants, his only plan! All fear the tasty Minotaur Who tread upon the sand... No need for armor or for blades, Their muscles bulged like sculpted clay But fang, at last, did win the day For Leg was too delicious, His Leg was too delish. ~ Beul the Executioner Slave of demon-lord! Spared from death by circumstance, He swung a mighty sword. Skyler Rich! A lordly noble elf! A fortune-heir to furniture, He cared but for himself... So stubborn was the elven lord He just refused to die! So Beul chopped off his haughty head And gave his battle-cry! And gave his battle-cry! ~ Morul Kogandodok, Cuttle-fish and king! To fund a war beneath the sea, He stepped into the ring. Urist the Boreal, Gargantuan and chill! A dwarf, they say, he used to be, 'fore curse did make him ill... But Morul made a grave mistake On land and out of water, He could not breathe, and tragically The King was promptly slaughtered, The King was promptly slaughtered. ~ Enter Mephistopholes, Was he alive or dead? None could tell what motives fell Were in his goat-skull head. Enter Goblin, Zip-Zop, With wooden shank and whip! It's said that at the local bar, She never left a tip... A magic fish the goblin wore, A charm to help her win! Bewildered, Meph did flee before A thousand cuts slew him! A thousand cuts slew him! ~ Udib, the Baron, Dwarven Iron-Lord! Sent by his "adoring" clan To wear their crafts of war. Van the Dungeon-Master, Masochist supreme! A troll who wore a mask and thong, Fulfilled the sadist's dream... The Baron's armor was no match For lord of tort'rers den! He grabbed the Baron by the neck - The safe-word was forgotten, The safe-word was forgotten. ~ Heribert, the Iron-Elf Heretic profane! Clad in metal did he come To seek Arena fame. Stomping-Boy, the Beautiful, Dressed like a regal queen! With elf-name unpronouncable, And warrior-spirit keen... It takes courageous heart to wear What others say you can't! But Heribert, who found despair, Was strangled on the sand! Was strangled on the sand. ~ There came to us a City Guard, And though I am a fluent bard, He offered naught to sing about And made this verse quite hard! *Here, laughter erupts.* Flipper, Ripper, Tavern-Tipper, Blackbird of the glacier! His taverns lost to burning sun, He fought against erasure... A clash of steel, of pike and axe And blood upon the sand! But in the end, the Penguin fell And still the Guard stands! And still the Guard stands! ~ *The band breaks into an instrumental interlude, maintaining their merry tune before they launch into the next verse.* (Continued in the comments!) Posted: 24 Jul 2020 10:32 AM PDT How do I find out which fortresses are abandoned? Do I have to look from Legends after I've created a world? I've tried to reclaim one fortress but there was other dwarfs already. So that kept saying that I was ambushed for some reason, even though the dwarves didn't seem hostile. [link] [comments] | ||
