Posted: 29 Jun 2020 08:07 AM PDT Signups are open! How does it work? The /r/dwarffortress Gladiator Tournament is a fun contest that uses the Dwarf Fortress Object Testing Arena to create a subreddit wide bloodbath. Redditors will assume the role of managers and will use the information and rules supplied in the master document, along with their own creative panache, to create their own gladiators complete with skills, equipment and backstories. These gladiators will then be seeded into a standard single elimination tournament, fighting in progressive rounds of single combat until one remains undefeated. The results of the tournament will be posted by round, with each matchup being documented in bloody detail including videos and combat logs. Between rounds managers will have the chance to upgrade their gladiators' skills and equipment (providing their gladiator survived), forming persistent characters who get stronger with each victory. Spectators can go over the gory details of each fight and discuss future matchups. Losers will have a chance to redeem themselves in a losers' battle royale held before the grand finale. The tournament will last around 6 to 7 weeks, with a single grand champion crowned at the end. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Jun 2020 07:55 AM PDT I Leveled the audio a bit and dropped that 8khz beep. It's not smooth listening in any way, but it should be a bit better. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fxnlig2o685erq7/Dwarf_Fortress_Talk_23_v5.mp3?dl=0 Clinodev posted a link to the original posted mp3: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rKJiJn7j8BTdM1PyoQ3PF4OQ-S90E8V6/view And apparently Sankis (see Boatmurdered) also had already done this! so, here's an alternate version https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3616403&pagenumber=567&perpage=40#post506117721 (edit: moved other links from comments to post) [link] [comments]

The elves and goblins turned up at the same time... Posted: 28 Jun 2020 05:03 PM PDT So Metalpeak has been poking both these civs as we're apparently at war but I've only really had one decent siege in 5 years. But then A Vile Force of Darkness arrived! Yay! Then an ambush - Curse All Friends of Nature! By the time they had all entered, I counted about 320 invaders. Elves had grizzlies and bobcats, goblins had beak dogs and trolls. It was definitely their main forces. My fort has a square wall, surrounded by a 5 level deep moat with one level of magma. One main bridge that diverts traffic over two more bridges when a blocking bridge is raised. Main feature is three retractable bridges over magma that all must cross to enter. A few fast trolls and beak dogs hit the thin line of traps and then got dumped in the moat. Then they saw the elves... First battle went to the elves, as they slaughtered the beak dogs and overcame the trolls, but one troll seemed to throw several elves into the moat, and the elves lost a few bears and most bobcats then. A small band of elves then followed fleeing beak dogs to the uncertain cluster of goblins milling at the map edge. The goblins were drawn out to kill them, but an elf had managed to climb out of the moat and set the forest on fire... It cleared soon enough, and when I opened the path into the fort, both groups pathed in and collided. It was not pretty, as wooden weapons are far inferior to metal. The victorious goblins ran to the entry bridge, one of them got killed by a weapon trap, and they all fled. About two hundred dead without a dwarf being involved. I've had to build new outdoor butcher and tanning workshops to deal with the dead animals of war, and I'm monitoring the little dorks for signs of extra stress and unhappiness. And there's a named silver artifact axe in a pile of clothing, so that's an unexpected bonus. 10/10 - would recommend! [link] [comments]

Having read the wiki, I still don't fully understand the Justice system and have two questions: Posted: 29 Jun 2020 05:54 AM PDT How do I remove cases from the list, or at the very least turn it around so the more recent ones are at the top, not between sentenced and old ones? And is there anywhere I can find the reports for a particular case all gathered, not interspersed with the rest of the general reports under r? [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Jun 2020 01:23 PM PDT I finished my longest fortress ever (4 years IRL). And the only interesting things that happened was that at the very beginning we had a six troll raid on the 2nd day that ended as soon as it started, the trolls ended up joining the fortress and started a life there and by the end, the fortress was more than half troll. My game continued very quietly and peacefully from then on, till we became the mountain home found mithirl and adamantium and flooded hell with cats and a glitched aquifer. My dwarves were scholars, craftsmen, and artists, and we only had 2 warriors the whole 4 years I played. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jun 2020 07:55 PM PDT so, i'm running my little orc fort, all is well, we have our little home in a hill carved out, with a nice big residential hall, food court and workshop, then winter comes, and i notice some dead orcs, and the announcements are being spammed with "Urist McOrcface cancels Give water; needs bucket" and "Urist McOrcface cancels Give water; needs water source" sure enough, some more orcs are dead as i scan through each floor, i then check the announcement feed and find out that the orcs are dehydrated, within the next 2 minutes every orc in my fortress had died of dehydration.
