    ☼Bi-weekly DF Questions Thread☼

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 04:06 PM PST

Ask about anything related to Dwarf Fortress - including the game, utilities, bugs, problems you're having, mods, etc. You will get fast and friendly responses in this thread.

Read the sidebar before posting! It has information on a range of game packages for new players, and links to all the best tutorials and quick-start guides. If you have read it and that hasn't helped, mention that!

You should also take five minutes to search the wiki - if tutorials or the quickstart guide can't help, it usually has the information you're after. You can find the previous questions thread here.

If you can answer questions, please sort by new and lend a hand - linking to a helpful resource (eg wiki page) is fine.

One of the activities that dwarven children should engage in is 'observe adult'

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 02:42 AM PST

Along with the ordinary play actions that children currently do, it would be cool if they occasionally decided to watch a nearby dwarf as they performed some or other skilled labour,, and in doing so trained their own skill in that labour (as well as the 'student' skill)

The types of jobs that interest them could perhaps be tied into their personality or attributes somehow, too. It would just be cool to have dwarves not always be completely unskilled when they join the workforce.

(PSA) If using a windows PC, turn on High Contrast Mode

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 02:55 AM PST

If you use Dwarf Therapist, Legends Viewer or the Wiki you might have noticed how bright it can be compared to Dwarf Fortress, don't strain your eyes, High Contrast Mode will darken the windows for you. I discovered it a month ago and I wish somebody would had told me about it earlier.

If using a Windows PC, you can turn it on using the keyboard shortcut (Left ALT + Left SHIFT + PRINT SCREEN). If that doesn't work you might need to enable it in "Control Panel -> Ease of Access -> Ease of Access Center -> Make the computer easier to see"

Edit: Also forgot to mention that when you turn it on, you might need to close and reopen any windows you currently had open.
