All of my Dwarves Worship a God of Death Posted: 16 Feb 2020 11:19 AM PST Alright, so hear me out, I'm new here, and I'm currently on my fourth fortress. Things are generally going alright, and I'm trying to make a temple so my dwarves can pray, but I learned that all of my dwarves primarily worship The Fated Dusts, a god of death. I know that gods of death can create slabs, and give them to people to turn them into necromancers, so I'm a little worried that one of my dwarves is gonna be, "blessed," and end up throwing a rave in my crypt. Should I be worried, or should I just make the most metal temple ever, and fill it with bodies to fit the theme? UPDATE: SO I BUILT THE TEMPLE AND NOW A BUNCH OF MY DWARVES ARE MEDITATING ON DEATH WHAT DOES THAT MEAN- DOUBLE UPDATE: So one of my dwarves is just casually meditating on death, and the text is green, but the other ones are, "MEDITATING ON DEATH!" and the text is purple. Please help I'm so confused- [link] [comments]
Why I gave a military funeral to 3 ducks Posted: 15 Feb 2020 03:13 PM PST I was attacked by a werekangaroo, and a swarm of my ducks attacked him doing serious damages ripping fucking apart his arm muscles. Which saved enough time for the squad to get there so no civilian dwarfs were bitten and infected. Rest in power Eral Astelonul, Imuk Libshked, and Eral Rashsibrek. Posted: 15 Feb 2020 04:08 PM PST My only question is, did banishing the Demon Lord actually cause turmoil for the Goblin civilization? Or was it just fiction? [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Feb 2020 07:55 AM PST I'm noticing with the Heroes and Villains update that if I worldgen to about 400+ years I end up with a continent so overrun by necromancer towers as to be uninhabitable. While this is a lot of !fun! I don't necessarily like getting swarmed by zombie hordes during my first year. Anyone else noticing similar worldgen 'quirks'? Is this a feature or a bug? Posted: 15 Feb 2020 08:52 PM PST I'm thinking of trying to teach an AI to play Dwarf Fortress. Strange choice of project, I know, but it's been on my mind for a while now and I'm intrigued as to what the AI can come up with. I've seen other AIs break games simply because they, for example, found a hyper-efficient way of doing things that humans never came up with. For the sake of simplicity, this AI would train SOLELY on a single fortress (i.e. same coordinates in the same world) using a predetermined embark setup. From there, I will need a way for a program to "see" the game. Either that or I upload all information to an array and pass THAT to the AI (again, for simplicity). Other than that, I have very little experience with machine learning. I had a project that I was working on when I was between jobs, but I haven't looked at anything for a while. Anyone have suggestions? [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2020 11:43 AM PST Inspired by another post, I decided to go on PC Part Picker and come up with a viable PC build for exclusively playing Dwarf Fortress (although I imagine it could be used as a workstation too).
If I were to do this build I'd do some overclocking and I'd run it in a minimal Linux environment... Arch Linux, probably. What do you think? Cheers! [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Feb 2020 09:15 PM PST Once my fort got to a level where it could raid, I sent my militia out to the nearest goblin settlement. However, a year passed and they never returned, so I figured they had all died or gotten lost and were gone for good. Years later, I sent two militia groups to see if I could rescue my previous expedition, only to have them return deftly defeated with their tails between their legs. Upon reading the mission logs, I discovered that they had been defeated (and had two of their members killed) by the dwarf Udib Kindledbell, one of my master spear dwarfs from the first mission. Turns out the first group got captured and imprisoned after killing half the goblins and trolls. Only Udib managed to escape, but instead of bringing the news back to the fortress, he instead fought his way up the goblin chain of command and became the lord of the entire goblin faction. He became so dedicated to his job in fact, he sent one of the deadliest raids ive ever seen upon a fort and killed half my population before traps and cage traps got them (arguably the goblin army got in through a hole I forgot to patch up so thats on me more than goblin strategy but still). You suck Udib. [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Feb 2020 04:55 PM PST He drowned, just like my 1st adventurer. This mad lad, who after waking up in a fortress, stealing weapons, armor and food from said fortress in front of the queen and surviving a jump into a magma sea by temporarily retiring, just fucking died on a small ass river, because he couldnt calm his hands after getting under a bridge. I love this game. [link] [comments] |
